STREET SUSPENSION FOR ALL 4WD PORSCHE 996

Porsche coilovers

Intrax has analyzed the original suspension of the Porsche and found it uses long springs that are in our idea a bit on the soft side for this powerful car. When driving it on bumpy roads the car hits the bumpstops at all but the smallest imperfections. The ride gets unnecessary harsh because of this. At the other end of the spectrum; when cornering enthusiastically the soft spring and the relatively weak low-speed damping make the car squat through its outer struts. This is most noticeable on higher speed bends with longer dips in it. The car squats through the outer struts and hits the bumpstops. If this is prevented, the steering on this wonderful car is even more precise.

Armed with our best components (a Porsche doesn’t deserve anything less) Intrax has build a 1K2 Black Titan street suspension system. As we have developed in the past already a  trackday and a full-race suspension, we had a good starting point to work from.

On the rear we developed a lightweight aluminum, competition grade 1K2 damper. This damper has all the exclusive Intrax features in it. It is a mono-tube damper with an extreme big 40mm damping piston for maximum oil displacement and finest quality damping. There is adjustability of compression and rebound damping in 30 clicks. It even has an internal thermostat for temperature compensation. And there is of course a high pressure Nitrogen support with a true separation piston. To ensure maximum comfort, we use the original topmount on the rear. During the engineering, we decided to use the ultra-low friction Black Titan piston rod, to achieve maximum comfort and lifetime.

Camber plates

For the front Intrax engineered a matching damper. We got rid of the original 22mm spindle and went for an oversized 45mm upside down system, of course also in a Black Titan version. This stiffens up the front suspension and improves the dynamic wheel alignment (remember the spindle takes braking and cornering forces). This massive tube will take all the abuse you can throw at it. For the front we use camber plates with an uniball for improved steering precision. Caster can be adjusted and additional camber can be set on the front wheels, up to about 2 degrees. As with the rear, also on the front the height and damping force can be adjusted over a wide range (30 clicks) to suit your taste and mood in comfort and handling.

The whole suspension kit is designed to be a 1:1 replacement and fits to the car without any modifications.

Reaction of the owner of the car:
“Dear Intrax,
Just wanted to let you know I am super satisfied with the conversion of the car. It can be pushed around the corner now!!! Maybe I will test with some stiffer damper settings, now that I have got the hang of it. Who knows how it will be then….

I am not only very content with the sheer speed it corners at now, but also with the way you can now feel the edge of grip. This is something really special. Much more subtle then before the modification”.
