COMFORT ADJUSTMENT FOR BMW X3

The X3 is a great car but in standard trim it has a ride comfort that is not to everybody’s taste. The ride can be harsh. This was also the biggest point of criticism when the car was tested at Topgear. Intrax has developed a suspension kit that will bring the comfort you can expect of a SUV like this. With the Intrax comfort kit, the X3s ride get’s less “busy”. The car will be gliding along and there will be no trace of wafting and jittering any more. The suspension becomes less firm and you feel much less of the surface condition transmitted from the road. The suspension kit consists of special, softer springs for all four wheels and high-quality adjustable shock absorbers for the rear axle. The springs and shock absorbers replace the standard springs one-by-one and can be mounted in the standard place.

The springs are made to the highest standards possible according to DIN2095. The highest grade of chrome-silicium wire is used. The height is the car is reduced by about 25mm, improving the stability and handling of the car.

The shock absorber that is mounted to the rear axle is the Intrax type RSA damper. This is a high-quality “mono-tube” damper, so no twintube. The mono-tube is developed for the Formula 1 and has the best possible damping because the damping piston is much larger compared with a twintube of the same diameter. Different from our competitors, Intrax chooses for one single adjuster knob for both the compression and rebound adjustment. With this single knob the total damping can be adjusted over a wide range of 40 clicks from “comfortable” to “sportive”. By using one knob the relationship between compression and rebound always stays correct. Also different from most of our competition, our adjuster changes not only the rebound but also the even more important low-speed and high-speed compression damping. The RSA has an internal thermostat that keeps the damping constant, avoiding the harsh ride in the cold morning and the loss of damping with elevated temperatures.
