SPRING RATE ADJUSTER
The choice for hard or soft springs is an important setting. This stiffness is defined as the spring rate and measured i n Lb/ inch or kg/cm ( divide by 5,6 to convert to this ). Until now, this meant that with one set of shock absorbers, several sets of springs needed to be purchased and continuously swapped to get the optimal performance ( for example 190, 200, 210 en 220 kg/cm ).
Intrax now delivers a spring rate adjuster that solves this problem and enables an optimum setting under all conditions, reducing setup time and purchase costs.
For closed circuit racing, hard spring are used for maximum stability and cornering ability under dry conditions. On a wet track, softer springs give better tration and predictability. In rally is a significant difference between "gravel" and "tarmac" stages. Simplified: when there is a lot of grip and a smooth road, springs need to be hard. When the surface is slippery and/or bumpy, softer springs deliver more traction and faster times. On the street, softer springs are comfortable but at a trackday stiffer springs are required.
By sliding the spring further into the spring rate adjuster, a part of the windings is excluded of the spring action and the spring becomes stiffer. When the position of the spring rate adjuster is modified, the ride height must be compensated. For each step (four steps total), a correction of four turns of the preload adjuster is needed to bring the car back to the same ride height.
